The Village of Winthrop Harbor is pleased to announce that SkipperBud's will now serve as the operator of North Point Marina for the upcoming boating season. SkipperBud’s is already a familiar and trusted presence along our harbor, having supported the boating community for years through sales, maintenance, and customer service. Their transition into day-to-day marina operations brings experienced management, continuity, and a team that understands both the needs of boaters and the importance of the marina to the surrounding community.
This development also expands an already strong partnership with the Village. SkipperBud’s has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to Winthrop Harbor and to Lake Michigan’s boating culture, and their involvement helps ensure that slip holders, visitors, charter captains, and local businesses can expect dependable service and a positive experience at the marina. The Village is confident that their knowledge and professionalism will enhance operations while preserving the welcoming atmosphere that makes our lakefront special.
The Village extends sincere appreciation to Joyce Mason, Illinois State Representative for the 61st District, for her advocacy and leadership in helping resolve the uncertainty affecting our residents, employees, and local businesses. We also recognize and thank Mary Edly-Allen, Illinois State Senator for the 31st District, as well as the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Office of the Governor of Illinois for their involvement and assistance throughout this process.
Over the past several weeks there have been frequent communications, coordination calls, and ongoing meetings involving the Village, state officials, marina stakeholders, business partners, and operators. Many individuals worked behind the scenes to share information quickly, coordinate next steps, and identify a path forward that allowed operations to continue without interruption. The outcome reflects a true collaborative effort and a shared understanding of the marina’s importance to the region.
North Point Marina is more than a destination. It represents a community within the community. Charter captains, service providers, restaurants, hospitality partners, employees, and boaters all form an interconnected network that supports Winthrop Harbor’s identity and local economy.
We are delighted to welcome visitors back for the 2026 boating season and once again open our lakefront to boaters and guests from across the Midwest. The Village looks forward to a vibrant and successful season and thanks our residents, partners, and the entire boating community for their continued support of Winthrop Harbor.
North Point Marina is preparing to welcome boaters back to Lake Michigan, and we’re excited to share some great news: everything you love about the marina is returning for the 2026 season, the same incredible boating, the same unforgettable lakefront atmosphere, and the same summer traditions now with a trusted new operator, SkipperBud’s, a name boaters across the Great Lakes already know and rely on.
