The Village of Winthrop Harbor is pleased to provide an important update to residents, businesses, boaters, and regional partners regarding the operation of North Point Marina and the surrounding state park properties.
It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the 2026 boating season will proceed uninterrupted at Winthrop Harbor’s North Point Marina.
We are proud to welcome a familiar and trusted presence as the new operator. Skipper Bud’s, a longtime and valued Winthrop Harbor business partner, will be overseeing the day-to-day operations of North Point Marina. Their history in the community and commitment to service provides confidence that boaters, visitors, and stakeholders will continue to receive the same high level of experience everyone has come to expect from our marina.
We also wish to extend our sincere appreciation to State Representative Joyce Mason for her advocacy and leadership in helping resolve the uncertainty facing not only our community, but also the many stakeholders, employees, and local businesses that rely on the marina. We likewise appreciate the involvement of State Senator Mary Edly-Allen, IDNR leadership, and the Governor’s Office.
Over the past several weeks there have been frequent communications, coordination calls, and ongoing meetings among the Village, state officials, marina stakeholders, business partners, and operators. The outcome reflects a true collaborative effort. Many individuals worked behind the scenes to move quickly, share information, and find a path forward so the marina could continue operating without disruption.
North Point Marina is more than a destination — it represents a community within the community. The charter captains, service providers, restaurants, hospitality partners, employees, and boaters all form an interconnected network that supports Winthrop Harbor’s identity and local economy. Ensuring a successful season required cooperation, patience, and dedication from everyone involved.
We are delighted to open the doors for the upcoming boating season and once again welcome visitors from across the region to our lakefront. The Village looks forward to a vibrant and successful 2026 season and thanks all partners and residents for their continued support of Winthrop Harbor and North Point Marina.
North Point Marina is preparing to welcome boaters back to Lake Michigan, and we’re excited to share some great news: everything you love about the marina is returning for the 2026 season — the same incredible boating, the same unforgettable lakefront atmosphere, and the same summer traditions — now with a trusted new operator, SkipperBud’s, a name boaters across the Great Lakes already know and rely on.
