North Point Marina offers public access to Lake Michigan for boaters of every kind. The marina has slips from 30 to 60 feet, with a signature One Price slip rental that bundles electricity, water, cable TV, free WiFi, sanitary pump-outs, dock lockers, showers and restrooms, parking, and on-site security at no extra charge. Transient slips are available for visiting boaters, and the marina also offers dry storage, a full marine service center, and a fuel dock with both gasoline and diesel.
You do not need to own a boat to get out on the water. The marina rents kayaks and stand-up paddle boards for exploring the harbor and shoreline, and the public boat launch has multiple lanes for easy in and out. Anglers will find a fish cleaning station near the swimming beach, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
For those who want the full Lake Michigan fishing experience, North Point is home to a fleet of professional charter captains targeting salmon and trout. You can learn more on our fishing page or through the marina directly.
The Tropics sits right inside the marina, where you can relax over great food while overlooking the harbor and Lake Michigan. The outdoor patio is perfect for a night out with friends and family, and the space can host weddings, banquets, and private parties for up to 120 guests. Open seasonally, generally May through October.
Right on the lakefront, Harbor Brewing pours your favorite styles and spirits from small and local breweries, wineries, and distilleries, with cozy outdoor seating and fireplaces overlooking the water. Hours shift with the season — check ahead before you go.

There is something to do at North Point well beyond the docks. The swimming pool is a favorite spot to cool off and take in the view. Day passes are available, with a 10-day punch card and a season pass for regulars, and reduced rates for slip holder guests.
Out on the grounds, you will find sand volleyball courts for a pickup game, a waterfront boardwalk made for an easy stroll along the harbor at sunset, and a swimming beach on Lake Michigan. Bikes and stroller trailers are available for rent by the hour, half-day, full-day, or 24-hour period — a great way to explore the marina, the adjoining Spring Bluff Forest Preserve, and the Illinois Beach State Park trails just to the south. Throughout the season, the marina hosts live music and events that bring the whole harbor to life.
For boaters who want community, the Winthrop Harbor Yacht Club is the heart of social life at the marina. Open 365 days a year to members, the club offers educational classes, organized cruises, theme parties, and year-round social activities for all ages, along with its own Canoe Bar, Weber gas grills, and Sunday breakfasts. The club is accepting new members and is also available for private rentals for parties of up to 130 people.
North Point Marina anchors one of the most scenic corners of the Illinois lakefront. Just south, Illinois Beach State Park offers 6.5 miles of shoreline, camping, trails, and a lakefront hotel. Next door, Spring Bluff Forest Preserve is one of the best birdwatching spots in the county. Spend the morning fishing or paddling, the afternoon at the pool or on the beach, and the evening at Harbor Brewing as the sun sets over the harbor. There is no better way to experience Lake Michigan in Winthrop Harbor.
